Job Title: Database Planning & Administration (DBA) Manager - Information Technology
Description:
The Database Administration and Planning Manager oversees technical supervision of database technologies and business intelligence encompassing all areas of the enterprise. This position will require exceptional technical skills and vision in order to guide the improvement of a leading edge, highly data-integrated, centralized set of systems and data technologies. Responsible for personnel and dealing with personnel issues as well as performance evaluations and goal setting. Accurately assesses staffing requirements and planning. The manager works directly with team members and other members of BP&T to design solutions for business strategies.
- Responsible for customer responsiveness and troubleshooting when either being made aware of issues affecting applications and SQL systems or though advanced alerts and systems monitoring.
- Provides effective leadership to employees and/or teams through: planning appropriate staffing levels; interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training; communicating performance expectations & providing feedback on performance, recognition, coaching, employee counseling reports and/or discipline including termination; creating career growth opportunities and employee development plans.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of enterprise data centers and related infrastructure to insure consistent up time.
- Develops and monitors best practices and methodologies as it relates to business intelligence and database systems management, planning, and design development.
- Ensures proper review of Technical Specs and Development and QA Test Plans are being performed
- Assists Program Managers and Business Analysts and functional users with project scope and definition.
- Leads and Champions data architecture to develop data flows, repositories and data warehouses.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree or related field experience preferred.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Familiar with DBA, Performance Monitoring, and alert tools
- Extensive skills with MySQL Database Administration.
- Knowledge of systems architecture and design
- Sounds skills and experience and Database Modeling and ERD tools (Erwin, ERStudio, and or Toad ERD)
- Extensive skills with MS SQL Server Database Administration experience in a high volume, large scale, and mission critical database environments is essential
- Solids skills in database and operating system performance tuning and monitoring
- Sounds background in working with BI/ETL and business reporting solutions (i.e. analysis services, reporting services, SSIS or related technologies).
- Data Warehousing expertise and knowledge
- Experience transforming complex Excel and csv spreadsheets into structured data suitable for loading into MSSQL server table via custom developed SSIS scripts or other Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL) methods.
EXPERIENCE
- 3 + years SQL Server and/or Oracle DBA skills and knowledge of distributed enterprise systems and integration technologies including, logical design, T-SQL, SQL, PL/SQL development/tuning, capacity planning, integration technologies, project life cycle management, production release management, backup/recovery and Disaster Recovery. 1-3 years experience as an application developer or systems analyst
- 3 + years in-depth experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 and related utilities and tools.
- 3 + years in-depth experience with MySQL and related utilities and tools.
- 3+ years experience with various backup and recovery scenarios as well as knowledge of Shell & SQL Scripting; and have solid knowledge of SQL or related database security management and working knowledge of High Availability/Cluster Technologies (i.e. Windows/SQL server Clusters).
- 3 + years demonstrated experience managing a large 24x7, heavy OLTP SQL production database environment.
- 3+ years direct staff management experience
MANAGEMENT
- supervisor or management experience in a programming/development environment
- 3+ years experience as a DBA and application developer
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- DBA related skill sets as well as Database design, coding, application servers, and Server Hardware Knowledge
- Ability to manage resources through multiple projects simultaneously
- Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle process
